It keeps calling me

Ocean Tempest

I can hear it calling
Whispering in the back of my head
Roaring silently
Crying in the tempest

I have tried to shut it out
To let the sounds
Of my unexciting life
Overpower the crashing waves
But it keeps nagging me
It keeps trying to pull me in
It keeps appearing before me
In everything that I see

I can look at the snow outside
And see but the polar landscape
Surrounded by the blue breeze

I can look at my unmoving house
And feel the rocking
Underneath my feet
As I ship across the seven seas
In the company of my soul
In the comfort of my dying place

I can look at the faces of those
Whom I consider close
And see but ripples in time
Settling over the vastness
Of the liquefied life

I can run
I can try to escape
I can look away
And turn the music up
And try to bury myself
In work or play
But whatever I do
It just sits there
It just waits for me
And it keeps on calling
And calling
And pulling me in
This nagging ocean
On which I should live
