This Captain is Dead

It must have been a long time coming
That his love for the sea
For the life of a mariner
Though minute in comparison
To his deeply caring feelings
For the one perfect woman
Would have caused his life to capsize
When the one who owned his heart
Could no longer bear the thought
In her beautiful mind
Of sharing her Captain with a ship
Of competing against his love for the sea

And in her blessed heart
Once filled with celestial happiness
Proper of only the angels above
But nowadays hardened and tainted
With the color of jealousy
In her never-again blossoming heart
She decided to quit
To leave him in his voyage
To wish farewell to her Captain

That’s when it happened
The ship’s log recorded with his tears
That she had left him heart-broken
And as her image fainted ashore
He died in his sleep
He fell into his dreams
His dreams, she dreaded
His life, she shredded
His dreams sank and pulled him along
And he fell into the bottom of the sea
Where he died of hypothermia
With his eyes closed

He dreamed of a life by the sea
Surrounded by the cool blue breeze
And the endless horizon
Forever shinning life beams
Upon his treasure
Upon her sweet face
Upon his reason for being
Aboard a mystical vessel
Where him and his beloved bride
Could eternally love one another
In the presence of the glorious sea

But the light, she took
And her head, she shook
The very sky she turned gray
And it all came to a frantic stop
When she decided to let him be

He knew he couldn’t force her
To love him
Anymore than she could force him
To stop living his dreams
And this
This new meridian he could not take
So he left the world outside his mystical ship
And just died
The Captain just died in his dreams

Quickly! Lower the lifeboats!
Call for help, and upon the sixth whistle,
Abandon this hurting ship!
Abandon this mystical vessel
On which a perfect woman
And a brave man
Once loved, and once lived!
Pull the sea painters
And swim for your lives
For the ship is sinking
Now that the Captain is dead!
Yes, now the Captain,
This Captain is dead.
