Field trip to the Cancer Center

The Spectrum Health Lemmen-Holton Cancer Pavilion opens on Monday, June 30. As such, one might expect tons of moving, setting up, confusion and problems. Well, since Spectrum Health thought of that, they sent out an e-mail asking for volunteers to help support the Cancer Center opening during the week ,before and the first week of, operations. I signed up for today. So here I am, until 3:00pm, helping in the command center. I am surprised to see that there is not too much commotion. I have only taken a couple of phone calls in the past hour, and nothing has been too serious. In a way, I am very glad that everything is running smoothly in preparation for this Monday's big opening. At the same time, though, I am also a bit bored. But at least that means I have some time to blog during lunch and then catch up with outstanding work. Did I mention I am getting free lunch for being here? :)

The one thing I've noticed so far is how beautiful, modern, and BIG this place is!!! Our patients and their families are going to love it!!! It doesn't feel like a hospital at all. I just hope our patients will like it as much as I do.
