Some people like rain because it calms them. There is something about the random splashing and dripping of water droplets that perhaps blocks all noise in their heads. They become deaf before the voice of guilt, the scream of desire, the cry for company, and the gasp of rejection. Each thought that torments their spirit is instantly shut down by each sound wave produced in the dark but refreshing wet air. When combined, these sounds form a barrier that for once lets people breath as it transports their minds into a field of blank emptiness. There, there are no thoughts, good or bad; there are no worries, no feelings, no people, no sidereal sparks and no everlasting time. It's a place where nothing exists but the splashing and dripping and breeze that this wonderful rain brings. For them, the rain is a escape, a break for the mind, a sanctuary where peace can be achieved.
Some people like rain because it excites them. Each droplet that falls down from the sky brings within a minuscule dream that exudes into their minds through a watery sound. For them, each droplet opens the gate for their hidden feelings to rush out into the storm that is almost as fierce as those feelings themselves. For them, a single droplet can awake their dormant childhoods, while a tempest rushes life through their veins. Rain is their guide to the hidden, their road to the unknown, their fuel, and their power. Rain is a life form that surrounds them in the mist of the vivid tempest, wrapped in lightning, in this dark but refreshing wet air.
Some people like rain because it connects them. It makes them feel part of the clouds, of the trees, of the people, of the breeze and the mist, of the ground below and the cold water that slowly accumulates by their feet. They feel linked to the world around them, as each droplet that hits any object creates a sound boom that reflects onto them, giving them a mental picture of what is out there. They need not see nor feel, for they can look through the sound and touch through the water. They can smell the moisture around them and perceive the force of the water pulled down by gravity. When everything is touched by the melting clouds, there is suddenly a humid matter everywhere that unites people to the ground below, to the beings around them, and to the heavens above. Rain forms the ether that is needed to be one with everything and for everything to concentrate into a puddle of oneness.
I like rain because it opens my mind. Each droplet that falls and breaks into sound seems to open my ears to the immensity beyond. Each flash above seems to give me sight of what was there before but to which I chose to be blind. The aromas below, in between and around alert me of the existence of things and beings beyond myself. Each droplet that touches me injects into me a sort of realization that I am here, that I am alive, and that I am not done doing whatever it is I am supposed to do in this Earth. Rain brings to me more than cold, more than mist, more than lights. Rain opens my mind to the thought that there is more to this dark but refreshing wet air than there appears to be, since it can connect or excite or calm many people, all at once, with a single droplet.
